Safe Operations of Overhead Cranes and Hoists

(12 min.) Crane and hoist operators are responsible for operating hoisting equipment safely and conducting functional tests of the equipment prior to using the equipment. Operators are responsible for selecting and using rigging equipment appropriately. Crane and hoist operators may be required to complete daily operational checklists to verify their equipment is in good operating condition.

Topics included in this safety video are: annual maintenance and inspection, conduct periodic and special load tests, proper records and documentation, operators must comply with (no attention diversion, respond to signals only from the person who is directing the lift, obey a stop signal at all times, do not move a load over people, never exceed the rated load capacity, when lifting a load, use the most vertical sling position possible and avoid side pulls, prevent shock loading) go easy when lifting or lowering, and rigging equipment.
