Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Ergonomics

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Ergonomics (10 min.) Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by consistently compressing a nerve that travels through a fibrous tunnel in the wrist to the hand (hence, carpal tunnel) and one good way to get it appears to be typing and mousing around with your wrists at an angle for long periods of time. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common condition that can hinder your hand movements and cause a great deal of pain. It occurs when too much pressure is put on the median nerve that runs through your wrist. CTS is not only very painful, but it may be disabling as well.

Topics included in this safety video are: anatomy of the hand and wrist, preventing CTS including adjusting your keyboard and your posture, wrist rests, breaks, ergonomically designed mice and keyboards, choose a laptop carefully, see a healthcare provider, listen to your body, avoid repetitive movements, rest your hands, slow down, use less force, exercise, ask your supervisor, be aware of the risks at home, and think about the tasks you do at home or even how you spend your leisure time.

Program comes with a CD-ROM of written materials, including test questions and answers. English title also includes PowerPoint presentation.
